This post is a two-fer.
My blogging doppleganger, Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher, recently nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. She wrote a great post about blogging and friendship, and how strange and wonderful it is that we get to know such personal details about each other through this online world we inhabit (click the link to read her post–it’s funny and thoughtful).

A virtual pat on the back
It inspired me to comment, to comment quite a bit. Below is just a little excerpt… she thanked me for my “succinct” insight, which I can only guess was a joke:
It helps satisfy a craving for mental stimulation, and it partly satisfies the need for connection, but I don’t think we can really get what we need without in-person human interaction. We’re apes, after all.
This is a whole new phenomenon, isn’t it?
Like you said, it’s similar to pen-pal type correspondence, except that it took days/ weeks to get a response through the mail. Now, the response can be immediate, which, together with the little notification icon lightingup, creates a habit loop that can lead to compulsion, and also lead to frustration when there isn’t immediate gratification.
In other words, we all just want to be loved and know that we have a place in this world.
Now it’s my turn to nominate folks for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, which brings me to the two-fer:
Kozo at Everyday Gurus has started Bloggers for Peace in an effort to do something actively to promote peace. Read all about this effort to blog at least once month about peace, how to link up, get the badge, etc.
So, this is my blog post for peace–in an effort to share some of the peace that these Very Inpiring Bloggers have brought to me through their friendship and encouragement, I nominate:
Kozo at Everyday Gurus (natch)
Gina at Professions for Peace who always inspires with wonderful quotations, images, and gentle encouragement. It is ALWAYS exactly what I need to hear. Thank you Gina.

From Professions for Peace
Zully at Spiritual World Traveler who is on an inspiring journey of reflection and growth, and takes lovely pictures. I’m just getting to know her, but I learned about her through my final nominee,
Rufina at Being Rufina~Sharing Life’s Plate in Small Bits and Large Bites Rufina has used her blog to track her journey of self-discovery and change. It began with eating healthier but has become so much more than that. Rufina has been with me since I started blogging, and was one of the first bloggers to reach out to me and offer encouragement. Her support and insight have meant so much to me, and inspired me to be a better blogger and better human. Thank you, Rufina!
And now that you’ve been nominated, here is the way to pay it forward:
Very Inspiring Blogger Award Rules

- State 7 things about yourself. See below
- Nominate other bloggers for this award and link to them. Done
Seven things about me:
1. I am supposed to be picking up my first-grader in two minutes. Ooops. Gotta go.
2. I just ran 10 blocks to the school and then walked back. I loathe that. (Or at least I used to. My kid goes to a much closer school now, allowing me to live up to my ideals.)
3. I am doing my part to raise the next generation of neurotic navel-gazers.
4. I’m not a runner. I do practice yoga, even though my yoga mat is toxic.
5. I am plagued by premature navigation.
6. I am plagued by self-doubt.
7. I bake a lot of muffins. Vegan muffins. I am changing the world one vegan muffin at a time.
Okay, so, go on now.
Go be inspiring. Go create a little bit of peace for yourself, and for all of us, in your blogs.
We are windows and mirrors to each other.

I was SERIOUS about your comments!! But I love being a doppelganger ~
Heehee
Maybe I should have gotten an MLS instead of an MPH after all!
Just apply for new letters – that’s all that you need
My little notification flag just lit up as I was sitting here!
And led me to this. And then my surprise at your very kind words. Thank you so much Kylie! Thrilled and honored, that’s what I am. Yes, I knew I loved your blog from the very start. Happy 2013, and here’s to developing an even closer connection over the coming year.
xoxoxo Rufina
Glad to provide a happy surprise. Have a wonderful weekend
{{{Hugs}}} Kylie. Congratulation hugs and hugs of gratitude. Thank you for your nomination, thank you for this wonderful post for peace, thank you for your blog. I’m laughing right now because I have to run and pick up my son in 7 minutes. Looking forward to a year of peace, sharing, smiles, and laughter for all of us and our children.
Hugs to you too!!
“I am supposed to be picking up my first-grader in two minutes. Ooops. Gotta go.”—Haha, this is so me. I’ll think, “Oh, I have time for one more blog post before I go pick up my son.” Before I know it, I’ve got only a few minutes to make a 10-minute trip.
Congrats on the award!
Time flies!!! Luckily they hang out in the classroom so there is some buffer time, and she didn’t know I was late.
This is my little poem for walking home:
The sun is out
The sky is blue
And walking home
Is good for you!
A good song for today in Ohio, considering it’s almost 60 degrees outside. Gorgeous and all the snow is gone. I suppose in reality that’s not good–global warming and all–but I sure loved it!
I honestly can’t think of a poop-related comment to make. I lose already! Nice post, by the way.
Well, poop, Ross. That’s just poopy.
Thanks for the wonderful “hat tip!”
Rufina is pretty awesome! I hope you get the opportunity to meet her face to face. Her presence is truly calming! xoxoxo
You are most welcome…and I hope so too.
Thank you! It would be even better for all three of us to connect at the same time. Maybe at a women’s week-end??
Some day!
How about Michelle’s retreat? I have to get the final details!
That’s exactly what I was hinting at!
What a wonderful post
Good for you for receiving this award, and bless your heart for nominating my blog, and for your very kind words. Thanks for the chuckles with your clever writing, and I say kudos to you, changing the world one vegan muffin at a time! Hugs xo ~Gina
