Dearly Beloved: Will the Real Liebster Please Stand Up? or, The Valentines of Blogging

The Green Study sent me the Liebster Award awhile back.

(This just in: so did Drinking Tips for Teens.)

She got hers from blogger The Greedy Frog.

He got his from blogger One Awkward Year.

Apparently the rules include: 1) Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.

2) Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back.

3) Answer the 11 questions proposed by the person who nominated you.

4) Select 11 people for the award.

5) Pose 11 new questions to the new nominees.

You can click here if you want to see the questions The Green Study answered, and

here for an EPIC POST by Drinking Tips for Teens. Not only is it epic, it’s hilarious.

The Green Study said we were “welcome to use the above questions or make up their own or just completely ignore this whole thing.”

I don’t feel like answering her 11 questions.

I don’t feel like making up another 11 questions.

What is a blogger to do?

Nobody has time to deal with a game of 11 questions.

Maybe the 11 questions are really the Roman Numeral for two: II.

I can handle two (II) questions.

I searched for a random question generator on the internet, but didn’t find anything user-friendly.

Stupid internet.

Back in high school I had a “Big Book of Questions” that would be perfect for this sort of thing.

I wish I still had that book.

It’s with all the other books I wish I still had.

Stupid divorce.

Okay, so here’s my solution:

I will answer the first 11 questions posed to me in the comments.

Smart, clever, thoughtful bloggers!

That’s eleven, not two, btw.

I changed my mind.

And here are my 11 Valentines/ Liebster Awardees:

(Oh my gosh, are you as tired of the center-justification as I am?? Back to the far-left, where I’m much more comfortable).

1. The Book of Alice

2. The Daily Trip

3. The Return of the Modern Philosopher

4. The Abrasive Embrace

5. The Laughing Housewife

6. The Kitchen Slattern Speaks

7. The Mercenary Researcher

8. The Belle Jar

9. The Write Transition

10. The Waiting

11. The Bumble Files

We all have something in common. Care to guess?

  1. To you and the other blogs that start with the word “The…”, Congrats on The Liebster Award! Now for my question: What is your favorite book of all time? ( this is a subject question which is near and dear to me…;)

    1. Thanks! You figured out the theme 🙂

Favorite book. I have such a hard time choosing my favorite of any thing: movies, books, foods. The only favorites I’m certain of are my husband and dark chocolate!

Can I give you a top five? To Kill a Mockingbird, Beloved, the Poisonwood Bible, Fall on your Knees, and Anne of Green Gables are all books that have stayed on my mind forever.

      1. Well, we have several favorites in common!! Fall on Your Knees by Anne-Mare MacDonald was incredible. I have also grown up with the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and I have actually read them all several times over!! I just love her expressiveness and how she feels everything so fully!

For me, The Life of Pi would be right up there, as would Memoirs of a Geisha, and Pillars of the Earth, having read them all way before the movies came out.

        1. Life of PI was good–I read that 7 years ago. But I haven’t read the other two. Will add them to my list!
I’m so excited to start reading the Anne books out loud to my daughter.

      2. Beloved and The Poisonwood Bible are also on my bookshelf, so I will move them up in the priority list. And of course, I have read To Kill A Mocking Bird. Love the classics too. So many books, so little time…

    1. Oh god!! I used to love cats, but now I can’t handle all the hair and poop and furniture destruction. And stepping on hair balls. Ewwwww.

But….Tabbies. Do tabbies count as a breed?

Do neighbors’ cats that run up to you when you walk by count as a breed? Those are definitely my favorite.

  2. Congratulations on the double nomination. I’m trying to frame my question in a Valentine-esque way… Okay, where (that you haven’t been already) would you most like to kiss your sweetheart?

  3. Oh, I love this, Kylie! Thanks for the nomination. This is one of the prettiest awards post I’ve ever seen. I feel like my Valentine’s Day is now complete. Here’s my question. Think about seriously now. What’s your favorite: Milk or Dark? Truffles or Nuts and Chews? Happy Valentine’s Day to you!!

    1. Heeheehee. You are welcome! Happy Valentine’s Day.

Definitely dark–I’m vegan. I eat an ounce of dark chocolate every day around two o’clock. It’s part of my coping strategy!
One of these days I plan to write a post called “How and Why to Eat Dark Chocolate Every Day.”
Truffles or nuts? That’s a hard choice. Definitely not chews, which should be called chEWWS! There are a few places to get vegan truffles these days, which is a little evil. But I have to go with nuts–especially almonds.

    1. It used to be a day rife with disappointment, putting my loneliness and rejection into sharp relief. Then I found love–the week of Valentine’s Day–four years ago. And now I’m married to a man who does adorable things like leave me a construction paper valentine in the fridge propped up against the smoothie he made for me. And I have kids to make homemade valentine’s cards with. And sometimes, all feels right in the world.

        1. Hahaha. I was getting my kids out the door earlier.

I believe cereal mascots are designed to market sugary cereals to kids and are partially responsible for the obesity and diabetes epidemic. This gives me an idea for a fun post: mug shots of cereal mascots and a roster of their crimes!

  4. I like your take on these awards. Did you make all those Liebster images? They look really good! To be sure, that’s not my question. Here’s my real question: what’s your favorite movie?

    Thank you for the nomination!

    1. Oh no! I have next-to-zero graphic design skills. I found them all online doing an image search. Which is the real one? And, is Liebster even a real German word? My husband thinks it’s a German Fictionary word.
Hmmm… my favorite movie. Depends on my mood. But if you want to hone in on the only movie I’ve ever purchased for myself (as opposed to my kids), it’s this: Ruby in Paradise. It was Ashley Judd’s first role, before she was famous. If you can find it, watch it!

  5. Congrats on the twofer and thanks for the shout out! I am flattered to be in such rarefied company. Here’s my question: Who’s your favorite Stooge and why?

Say Anything. Anything at all.
