Marina, wrapped in a pink blanket, quietly standing on the porch.
In his mind, he saw her there still: all he wanted. His woman, a child, a house, a life.
“Gone!” he shouted.

This is an entry for this weekend’s Trifecta Writing Challenge. The Trifectans provided snapshots of page 33 of the book Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, and challenged us to write a piece using any 33 words from the page.

I like it, but I haven’t read the book, so my judgment is probably flawed, huh? I don’t read enough (fiction) to take part in things like this…I do write, though, which is blasphemous to some…
Kylie, I’m currently writing a short story, would you be my experimental reader when I’m done?
I would love to!
Awesome!
You’re awesome, we’re awesome…
Terrific story. Excellent find!
Thanks!
Sad. great piece ..
Thank you. The prompt sure elicited a lot of dark pieces, didn’t it?!
Oh yes. It did..quite a few of them!
Oh I like this! Clever, using marina as a name.
Hey, thanks! I wanted to use “leaves” and “needles” as verbs, too, but couldn’t make it work. Thanks for reading 🙂
Wonderful-love the idea of it all:-)
Thank you 🙂
🙂
Wow this is great, one of my favourites that I’ve read so far
Thank you. That’s so kind of you to say!
I loved that you named her Marina! I used to know a Marina from Germany. But I did not think woman’s name, I thought only of a place. well done!
Thank you!
My first version began “Marina leaves the kitchen, old, slow, squawking, “Hackamatack!” But then I couldn’t find any more words to fit 😉
Lovely! Great use of the prompt!
Thank you, Suzanne.
I scanned that page so many times to find words that I probably have it memorized! It was a fun exercise, though.
This is really good!
Thank you 🙂
