Toddlers Killed More Americans Than Terrorists Did This Year

I just read this, and you should too: Toddlers Killed More Americans Than Terrorists Did This Year. There

ASKing Saves Kids

were at least 11 deaths in the past five months in which the shooter was three to six years old.

Three years old.

It’s simple math, or simple epidemiology, or just simple common sense: where there are more guns, there are more gun deaths.

Over 3000 children are killed via guns every year in the U.S. That’s eight children a day.

Eight children. A day.

Where there are loaded guns left within the reach of children, there are more gun deaths.

Where there is a big, profit-driven lobby blockading any and all sensible public safety laws that would: 1) require adults to store guns locked and unloaded, 2) require adults to be held accountable for any violence committed with their guns, 3) require everybody to pass background checks before buying a gun, 4) require–and here is a radical notion–adults who buy guns to take a training and skills program as is done in many countries, 5) require–and this isn’t even being proposed–gun makers to stop marketing their guns because they are dangerous consumer products, and 6) require video game and movie makers to stop normalizing “gunplay” in children’s media, it’s no wonder we have gun death rates in our country similar to those of a war-torn, “third world” country.

It’s enough. Have you had enough? I’ve had enough (Click the link–watch my video–you can do some Art=Ammo activism in YOUR community, too.)

Is there a gun where your children play? ASK about it. Asking Saves Kids. Watch this video.

And if you didn’t read this moving, heart-breaking, and ultimately mobilizing profile of the parents of one of the Sandy Hook victims, please read it. Please read it now. But get the tissues handy first.

    1. It’s starting to look like the only gun legislation that might pass in my state is MORE funding for a program that RESTORES the right to possess guns to people who have been committed by a judge as mentally ill. Un-frickin-believable.

  1. I hate guns. My husband has them, but they’ve been in the family for years and he grew up on a ranch, etc. He does use them responsibly. Still, first thing my parents just happened to buy us for Christmas? A gun cabinet that locked. That’s our compromise.

        1. I know…I cried so hard reading that. I’m amazed at their bravery and commitment. I can’t imagine the horror. Losing my dad was close, but not nearly as horrible.

Say Anything. Anything at all.
